Welcome to Mr. Gawron's Band Class, Grades 6-8!

We are currently very busy working on developing musical skills, practicing techniques, on-going assessment, and preparing band arrangements.

Grade 6 Band:

We are currently working through the method book-Essential Elements- that was provided at the first band class.

I have been encouraging the students to practice as much as possible and work through as much of the book as they can because I tend to move quite quickly during rehearsals; mainly because of the limited time we have together a cycle.

Please encourage your son or daughter to take good care of their instruments and clean them regularly. Please ensure cleaning, oiling of valves, and minor maintenance is done outside of rehearsal time. Because I'm at the school everyday, students can bring their instruments to me with any issue. Attending to small issues during the rehearsal severely limits rehearsal time.

Grade 7/8 Band:

The grade 7 band will be learning the concept of intonation, learning how to tune and keep our instruments in tune. This will be an ongoing procedure carried out at the beginning of every class.

The group will be learning how to play arranged band music this year, which is a departure from unison parts found in the method book.

Please follow the links to audio recordings of the pieces we will be working on in band.

Practice Records:

Please encourage regular practicing. I recommend 10-15 minutes daily. Students can double up on weekend. Please ensure it is recorded on the practice sheet.

Practice records are due at the end of every month. They must be initialed by a parent on a weekly basis. They will receive a new record at the beginning of every month.

Please see the course document below.
