Spelling Lesson #17 -Due Thursday, April 9
Adverbs -ly

Lesson Instructions:

The suffix -ly is usually added to base words without changing the spelling of the base. For example, quiet becomes quietly. Notice, however, that a double l is formed when ly is added to a base word that ends in l. For example, eventual becomes eventually.

In the case of words that end in -le, the le is dropped before the suffix is added. For example, terrible becomes terribly.

In words that end in consonant + y, the y changes to i before the suffix is added. For example, happy becomes happily.

Remember to do your definitions.

Today we are going to look at Punctuation... All right guys, I know I can hear your groans from here. Some of you are still struggling with the proper punctuation and when to use it...So, here we go!

Punctuation:

Comma ( , ): can be used to separate phrases, words in a list, and sentences connected by a conjunction. The comma is also used with quotation marks.

Exclamation mark ( ! ): used at the end of a phrase or sentence that expresses a strong emotion
Colon ( : ): often used before a list of words or phrases
